Liver disease and jaundice in babies and children are important health concerns because early signs can indicate serious underlying conditions that affect health, growth and development. Jaundice may present differently across diverse populations, particularly in children with darker skin tones where yellowing may be less visible - highlighting the need for culturally competent assessment. Health visitors play a vital role in recognising early symptoms and supporting families by providing clear health education. They also can ensure timely referral to specialist services to help reduce health inequalities and improve outcomes for all children.
